Seasonal Assistance

CAPTAIN CHS offers a variety of Holiday and Seasonal Assistance Programs, including School Supplies, Coats for CAPTAIN, Thanksgiving Baskets, Adopt-a-Family and Toy Shop.

To qualify for some of these programs, you must receive some form of public assistance, such as SNAP or free or reduced school lunches, or, in certain cases, be referred by a partner organization or school.

Applications for each individual program are offered online. If someone is not able to do an online application, they can do one over the phone or in-person with a staff member or volunteer. All applicants must provide proof of eligibility at time of application or as soon as possible thereafter.

At this time, our holiday programs are complete for 2023. If you are in need of a winter coat or assistance, contact our Family Assistance program at 518-371-1185.

Programs

  • Adopt-a-Family

The Adopt-a-Family program allows donors to shop for a specific family's needs (note the family remains anonymous). The program is available for qualified families in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Shenendehowa School Districts.

  • Coats for CAPTAIN

CAPTAIN CHS collects new and clean, gently-used coats for children and adults throughout the months of September and October, and distributes coats October 1st through 31st.

  • School Supplies

During the months of July and August, CAPTAIN CHS collects school supplies for those students in need so that they are better prepared for the classroom and their educations. With their family's help, students can then complete their classroom list. Supplies are distributed to students in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Shenendehowa School Districts.

  • Thanksgiving Baskets

CAPTAIN CHS proudly continues our tradition of offering Thanksgiving Baskets to those in need in our community. Each basket contains everything needed for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, including a gift card for a turkey. Baskets are donated by generous families, scouts, office groups, organizations, and faith-based groups in our community.

  • Toy Shop

Toy Shop allows qualified Saratoga County families who have not been enrolled in any holiday help program to select a few new toys for their children.
