Facilities and Equipment Maintenance
Opportunity Category: General/Administration
Description: Help us assess and prioritize the CAPTAIN CHS facilities and equipment (cars/vans, etc.) in terms of what needs to be repaired and maintained. Experience in engineering, construction, or any technical trades a plus.
Time Requirement: 2-3 hours/week for a few months for the initial assessment of our facilities and equipment

Spring Clean Up
Opportunity Category: Cheryl's Lodge (Outreach Center)
Description: Plant new flowers in front of our Outreach Center, trim trees around perimeter, clean up hedges in front, rake, mow lawn if needed, weed whack, put mulch down in front to make it look pretty. Physical requirements include lifting, squatting, and carry things.
Time Requirement: Fridays or weekend days, weather dependent

Homework Help
Opportunity Category: Cheryl's Lodge (Outreach Center)
Description: Assist youth grades 1st-12th with completing homework, school projects, and study for tests/quizzes. More importantly engage them in activities at the outreach center. For elementary time, the youth are active and when able to go outside, they like to be pushed on the swing set and play catch. Experience working with kids a plus but not required.
Time Requirements: Elementary is M-T-W-TH from 2:30p-3:45p; MS/HS is M-T-W-TH from 4p-5p; One volunteer meeting per month

Homework Help Drivers
Opportunity Category: Cheryl's Lodge (Outreach Center)
Description: Drive the youth from homework help home. May need to get in and out to help the kids out of the van. Must be comfortable with driving vans, possibly a 12 passenger van.
Time Requirements: M-T-W-TH afternoons. 1st van run starts at 3:45p. 2nd van run starts at 5pm.

Peace Camp Volunteers
Opportunity Category: Outreach Center (Cheryl's Lodge)
Description: Assist the youth with day to day activities of Peace Camp. Ensure they are following directions and help them engage in the activities. Will need to be active, be able to sit, stand, run, walk, etc. Experience working with kids a plus.
Time Requirements: M-T-W-TH 7:30a-2:30pm on Peace Camp dates.

Mentors
Opportunity Category: Family Development/Community Services
Description: Provide empowerment based mentoring to assist families or individuals with building resources to move from crisis to self sufficiency. Financial literacy, life skills, organizational skills, and/or experience with community resources required.
Time Requirements: Our mentors meet when the clients are available so some flexibility is required. Attend monthly mentor meeting on the 1st Tuesday of the month for an hour. There is also a mentor training period which will depend on mentors comfort level. Mentors also complete progress notes after each mentoring session.

Job Coaches
Opportunity Category: Family Development/Community Services
Description: Provide career exploration, obtain employment, improve their current situation, or increase their earning potential. Experience with workforce and career development, interview coaching, and job matching a plus, though we have training opportunities available.
Time Requirements: Flexibility required as we work around our client's schedule. We also have weekly Job Coach meetings at the Clifton park office which are about an hour long.

Childcare and Drivers for Getting Ahead Classes
Opportunity Category: Family Development/Community Services
Description: Childcare portion requires watching children from newborn through school age while the parent is taking the Getting Ahead class, feeding the child dinner and snack, playing with them, and ensuring their safety. Must be able to lift at least 15lbs. Experience working with children required.
Driver portion requires picking up and dropping off clients in the Getting Ahead class and their children using our agency vans. Experience driving a van required, sometimes a large 12 passenger van.Time Requirements: Dependent on class time, but currently for childcare we have Wednesday nights from 6pm to 8pm. Drivers typically start around 4:30/5pm to get attendees to class by 6pm. Then dropping off van at Clifton Park office after returning attendees home.

Care Links
Opportunity Category: Senior Services
Description: Care Links offers a variety of volunteer opportunities, including transportation of seniors, companionship to seniors, running errands or simple household tasks, and office and event support.
Time Requirements: Initially, volunteers would need to have daytime flexibility for an interview with the Program Manager and introduction to a senior. Office support is Mon- Fri between 9-12 & 12-3. Transportation is available to seniors based on volunteer availability.

Food Pantry
Opportunity Category: Food Pantry
Description: Sorting through donations, packing pantry orders, and organizing pantry as needed. Some heavy lifting, bending, and squatting required.
Time Requirements: Monday afternoons, Tuesday afternoons, Thursday mornings
