Staff Spotlight: Kristie Sweet

Ten Questions with Kristie Sweet, Employee of the Quarter

What is your job title?
Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter Administrator

How long have you been working at CAPTAIN CHS?
3 years

How did you first learn about CAPTAIN CHS?
I knew of Captain CHS from working within Saratoga County with both youth and adults for a number of years before I joined the team.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
Helping others is what motivates me to get up and go to work. I also love seeing the youth that are at the shelter everyday and helping them navigate through their challenges.

What does a typical work day look like to you?
There is no typical day at the shelter! Every morning I make sure there are no issues that need to be addressed from the night before. Then I start working on paperwork and making phone calls to parents and providers. Sprinkle a few crisis referrals in there and then typically the youth are back from school. When the youth return from school, then I am meeting with them!

What is your proudest moment at CAPTAIN CHS?
I'm very proud of being employee of the quarter! Also, it's always humbling when youth call us months or years later and let us know that their time at the shelter provided them the relief that they needed and they are doing well now!

Do you have a favorite quote or movie?
"Be the person you needed when you were younger." Also my all time favorite movie is Elf. I watch it all year round!

What do you like to do when you're not at work?
Anything that provides me stress relief! Spend time with family and friends, cook, spend time outside and I kick box 4 nights a week!

What are five words (or less) of advice for others in your profession?
Keep fighting the good fight!

What else should we know about you?
Hard to pick just one thing! I love to laugh and feel that laughter is truly the best medicine! I'm also obsessed with the Holiday Season. It is my favorite time of the year!!
