It's National Love People Day! Here's How to Spread the Love

Every year, September 30th is National Love People Day. The purpose of this day is to show love to everyone – no exceptions. National Love People Day tasks us to express unconditional love which will help make the world a better place. Today gives you the opportunity to love everyone, from all walks of life. There is no requirement for today, besides LOVE!

Learn how you can help spread love with the following tips.

1. Start with yourself. It’s like they say on an airplane: put your oxygen mask on first before trying to help your neighbor. We are unable to help and genuinely care and love others until you love and care for yourself. “Self-care is not selfish”, we’ve all heard it before, but it’s TRUE. Try something as simple as giving yourself a few minutes a day to get outside and get some fresh air. Make time each day to do something you enjoy, eat that piece of cake and don’t let yourself feel guilty about it. Even taking a moment to just close your eyes and breathe for a minute. All of these ideas can help improve your mood and free your mind up to love others unconditionally.

2. Practice small acts of kindness. What may only take you a few seconds or seem too small to you could make someone else’s day or even week! Leave small, hand-written notes of encouragement around throughout your day for strangers to find. Post-It notes are a great way to do this! Write small phrases on them such as, “you are loved <3”, “you’ve got this!”, “you are beautiful”. Anything that will brighten someone’s day when they find it! Give up your great parking spot and walk the extra few feet to help out the elderly man who is looking for a close spot. Let the busy mom with her three kids cut in front of you in the line at the grocery store. These small acts of kindness can go a long way and make a positive impact on your community!

3. Say thank you! To your friends and family. To your server. Your barista at the coffee shop. Your mailman. To EVERYONE! Go out of your way to let the people in your life know you appreciate them and what they are doing. Find the people doing jobs in which they are usually ignored and tell them thank you. They will remember it and be grateful for the appreciation.

You don’t have to wait until National Love People Day to start making a difference! Begin incorporating these into your daily life and you will begin to feel so good that you’ll start actively seeking more ways to spread love to those around you.

Now go out and get started!
