
CAPTAIN Community Human Services' seasonal programs provide support for the holidays, preparation for the cold winter months and the school year, and more. These programs are primarily supported through local donations and offered throughout Saratoga County.

The Adopt-a-Family program allows donors to shop for a specific family's needs (note the family remains anonymous). The program is available for qualified families in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Shenendehowa School Districts.

Bike Works provides bicycles to residents throughout Saratoga County who are willing to invest some time to learn the basics of bike safety and bike maintenance. With the help of the Stewart’s Corporation, CAPTAIN CHS provides new or lightly-used bicycles to deserving individuals for recreation, transportation, and as a means of promoting a healthy lifestyle. With a focus on education and developing a commitment to biking, CAPTAIN CHS staff and community volunteers teach bike safety, maintenance, and repair to area youth throughout the year.

CAPTAIN CHS collects new and clean, gently-used coats for children and adults throughout the months of September and October, and distributes coats October 1st through 31st.

CAPTAIN CHS proudly continues our tradition of offering Thanksgiving Baskets to those in need in our community. Each basket contains everything needed for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, including a gift card for a turkey. Baskets are donated by generous families, scouts, office groups, organizations, and faith-based groups in our community.

Toy Shop allows qualified Saratoga County families who have not been enrolled in any holiday help program to select a few new toys for their children.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is an IRS service that offers free tax help to income-qualified individuals and households, persons with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. We serve all counties in the Capital area.
