Imagine you’re a working mother. You have a job, an apartment, a routine. Then one morning, your car won’t start.
No car means no work. No work means no paycheck. And without a paycheck, rent is suddenly in jeopardy.
You know you need help, and fast! So, you make calls. You search online. You ask around.
What you find is a maze.
Food assistance is across town. The housing office isn’t on the bus route. The emergency assistance office is only open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and you just missed the window to make an appointment this week.
You’re not lazy. You’re not irresponsible. You’re exhausted, scared, and quickly running out of time. And the system that’s supposed to help you is making everything harder.
This is the reality for 1 in 3 households in our region.
Since 2016, the number of people turning to CAPTAIN Community Human Services for help has grown by 35%. Families who never imagined needing assistance. Seniors with nowhere else to turn. Young people in crisis with no clear path forward.
They’re reaching out for help. And too often, the help is just out of reach.
That’s exactly why your support of the Building Brighter Futures Capital Campaign matters so much.
The Community Engagement and Resource Center will change this. For the first time, families will be able to walk through one door and access housing, emergency food and assistance, employment services, and so much more – all in one central location.
The maze ends here. But only with your help.
We’re just $600,000 away from our $5.2 million goal and we must reach it by the end of July. Your gift today brings us one step closer to a community where no one falls through the cracks.
